The bicycle ride for propagating the message "Save the Girl Child"
27 Sep 2012

Green Plant Bicycle Riders' Association received a proposal from the Department of Tourism and the Department of Women and Child Development to organize a mass bicycle ride/rally from Orchha, an important tourist location in Madhya Pradesh, to Khajuraho, again an internationally known tourist place.  The proposal was on to be in conformity with the aims and objectives of GPBRA, and was accepted by us.  Accordingly, a bicycle ride/rally was planned by GPBRA in association with the above departments of Govt. of M.P. and Collectors of Tikamgarh and Chhattarpur Districts.  It was planned that the rally would start from Orchha on 27th September, 2012, being the World Tourism Day, and would pass through places of tourism importance in both the districts and would also carry the message of "Beti Bachao" programme of Madhya Pradesh Government.

As planned, about 45 riders of GPBRA reached Orchha in the evening of 26th September, 2012.  On the next day, i.e. 27th September, they were joined by local bicycle riders from Orchha and nearby villages.  The ride/rally was flagged off from Orchha by Shri Hari Shankar Khatik, Hon'ble Minister of the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh.  The rally headed for Digoda in Tikamgarh, which was joined on the way by local bicycle riders.  The rally was given rousing welcome by the villagers and panchayats enroute.  After halting at Digoda in the night of 27th September, the rally covered the villages/localities enroute to Baldevgarh via Tikamgarh on 28th September 2012.  On the 29th September, the riders of GPBRA supported by local riders covered the route from Baldevgarh to Chhattarpur, where the riders made a night halt.  Through out the route the rally participated in the programmes organized by local panchayats under the "Beti Bachao Abhiyan".

On the 30th September, 2012, GPBRA riders were given civic reception by Chhattarpur Municipality, in which the riders were honoured by President of the Municipality, the local Member of Parliament and the MLA.  After this the rally took off for Khajuraho, and on its way the riders participated in many programmes organized by local communities.  The rally terminated at the International Tourist location, viz. Khajuraho.   A concluding function was organized by the District Administration of Chhattarpur in association with the Nagar Panchayat of Khajuraho.  Riders of GPBRA were, once again, honoured by Shri Hari Shankar Khatik on behalf of the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh.

GPBRA riders were happy to participate in the ride/rally, which was organized for the social cause of "Beti Bachao", programme.v
