World Environment Day
05 Jun 2012

The World Environment Day has special significance for the Green Planet Bicycle Riders' Association.  It was on this day in 2009, when GPBRA organized the biggest ever Bicycle Rally/Ride in Bhopal, which was attended by about 20,000/- riders from different spheres of life/activities, such as the Industry, Army, Sports, BHEL and common people.  This was a landmark event, which help raise awareness about cycling and use of bicycle for mobility in the society.  It also highlighted the importance of bicycle as an environment friendly means of mobility, which does not leave any carbon foot prints and helps improve the health and fitness of the people.

After the success of the above event, GPBRA observes the World Environment Day every year in the grand manner by organizing different events, such as Bicycle Rally, Eco Rides, Heritage Bicycle Ride, Bicycle Stunt Competition, Quiz Competition etc. This year also GPBRA teamed up with Indira Gandhi National Museum of Mankind for organizing a long Bicycle Ride in Bhopal followed by exhibition on environment friendly modes of mobility and life style.  The environment awareness rally was taken out from Mountain Cycle Track, Bhopal, which passed through streets of Bhopal city and terminated at Indira Gandhi National Museum of Mankind, where a Bicycle Stunt Show was staged by GPBRA Riders.  This show was appreciated by all and sundry, who watched the show.  This was followed by inauguration of the exhibition on environment friendly lifestyles and modes of mobility put up by IGNMM.  The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri Satya Prakash, President, GPBRA and the event was presided over by Prof. Mishra, Director, IGNMM.  Overall impact of the event has been very encouraging
