Adventure Ride to Pachamarhi
23 Dec 2012

To promote adventure bicycle tourism, core team members of GPBRA decided to undertake a long ride upto Pachamarhi in the last week of December, 2012.  Accordingly, 12 core team riders of GPBRA reached Hoshangabad with their bicycle equipments in the evening of Sunday, the 23rd December, 2012. It was planned to start the ride in the morning of 24th December, 2012, with active support of the District Administration of Hoshangabad.

With a view to leveraging the people's participation and support, Collector, Hoshangabad decided to use the ride for propagating the message of "Save the Girl Child" on the Beti Bachao Campaign of the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh.   The ride was accordingly publicized as Cycle Rally from Hoshangabad to Pipariya and onwards.  A flag off function was held at Hoshangabad in the morning of 24th December, 2012, which was attended by the MLAs from Hoshangabad and Sohagpur, and the Chairperson of Hoshangabad Municipality.  After the function, cycle rally passed through the streets of Hoshangabad with the message of "Save the Girl Child".  After the local ride the riders of the GPBRA took off for Pipariya.  On way of Pipariya, GPBRA riders joined by local riders from different villages stopped at several places including Babai and Sohagpur where many functions were organized. After riding for about 6 - 7 hours, the riders reached Pipariya at about 6.30 PM, where a grand reception was organized by the local MLA under the aegis of Pipariya Municipality.  The riders made a night halt at Pipariya on the 24th December, 2012.

Again a large public function was organized in the morning of 25th December, 2012 at the Government Higher Secondary School, in which GPBRA riders were accorded public welcome.  After the function, about 200 student riders joined GPBRA riders for onward journey.  The student riders rode about 10 kms and parted ways. GPBRA riders continued their ride upto Pachamarhi.  On the way, the riders stopped at Matkuli, where they had lunch.  After the lunch, they took off for the most difficult part of the ride.  It was about 29 kms of continuous up-slope ride taking them through serpentine climbs.  The riders reached Pachamarhi at about 3 PM, where they were accorded welcome by District Administration.

In the evening of 25th December, 2012 GPBRA riders were honoured in the inaugural function of Pachamarhi Utsav.  Next morning, i.e. 26th December, 2012 GPBRA riders visited local tourist spots on bicycles, and then proceeded to Dhupgarh, the highest hill point in Pachamarhi.  The ride terminated at Dhupgarh.

GPBRA riders earned appreciation from all and sundry for this adventurous ride.  The ride also encouraged students and youngsters towards engaging in such adventurous activities.  We also spread the message of using non-motorized transport for visiting Pachamarhi and nearby tourist locations, and sparing pollution caused by motorized transport.
